Your Eco Tour with Pure Naples

Arriving at the Pure Naples ticket office at Tin City for check in, our staff will welcome you with smiles that are just about as bright as the sun. They will answer any questions you might have about the Pure Naples experience you are about to embark on.

The weather is pleasant as you wander down the docks, with a slight breeze heralding the excitement of the next three hours. Greeting you as you board will be your Captain and our Certified Naturalist, who will provide you with interesting facts and information about the area you will explore. You will learn about the types of fish and wildlife that inhabit our waterways. Are there alligators or not? Are manatees native to Florida and where do they live? How many types of mangrove trees are there? What is the “walking tree”?

These are just a few examples of some of the things you will learn the answers to. Traveling the offshoots of the Gordon River, a sharp lookout is kept for dolphin, American Bald Eagles and varieties of Egret that seclude themselves in the tree branches as they keep a lookout for a fish to catch.

Halfway through the tour, Keewaydin Island is approached and you are encouraged to go ashore for 45-minutes of shelling, swimming and exploration. At certain times of the year, sea turtles will make their way ashore to lay their eggs. Their tracks can be seen going from the waters edge up to their nest and then returning to the water again, leaving their eggs to incubate. These turtles are protected by Florida Fish and Wildlife and you will notice a yellow barrier around the area.

Our Naturalist is there to answer your questions about the different shells that line the shore – Who lived in them? Where did they come from? Are they edible? You are invited to take home any you like in the provided Pure Naples shell bags. And we often see our passengers taking a quick swim while enjoining the space of this beach.

Returning to the M/V Naples Explorer, you settle down for your trip back to Naples. Your Captain will take you into Rookery Bay and explain its unique eco system including the many different species of wildlife that habitat the area. As your vessel ties up once again at Tin City, it is hard to believe that three hours has passed. You will hopefully have collected three things: shells, memories and knowledge of this beautiful area.
