Marine Science Cruise for students Aug. 19

Pure Florida will provide a hands-on learning experience during its Marine Science Cruise field trip on Aug. 19 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Students in first through seventh grade are invited aboard the Fort Myers-based M/V Edison Explorer to participate in activities that encourage creativity, problem solving, teamwork and critical thinking as they experience and learn about the Southwest Florida environment.

The 1.5 hour cruise will sail out to the Caloosahatchee River, where students will work in groups to test local waterways for water temperature, salinity levels, pH, nitrate, ammonia and phosphate levels, and complete other related activities. The cruise will showcase the Southwest Florida ecosystem and the wildlife native to this area, providing the opportunity for students to connect new information to their firsthand experience on the water.

The upcoming Marine Science Cruise will depart from Four Freedoms Park in Cape Coral. Tickets for the cruise are $15 per person for residents and $23 per person for non-residents.
